Attack Types

Different weapons do different amounts of damage and are calculated differently. The types of weapons are Melee, Bow/Hurled, and Mechanical. You may also look at a work written by The "Ethos" entitled, "Weapon Types"

Melee: Melee weapons are weapons that are held and used by the character. They have no mechanical parts and their damage is based in part upon the weapon’s design and in part upon the strength of the wielder.

Bow/Hurled: This group includes all normal bows as well as anything thrown by the character. Damage from these weapons is the same as melee weapons.

Mechanical: Mechanical weapons like crossbows, modern guns, and blasters do an amount of damage based upon the design and function of their mechanical parts, and it has nothing to do with the strength of the user. This group also includes explosive weapons such as grenades and C4, which are based upon the physical/chemical reaction. These weapons tend to be the most damaging of all weapons.

Unarmed attack types

Punching: Punching is wild untrained street fighting. It is the kind of thing people pick up in bar room brawls. Punching may be used to attack and it may be used to block other punching attacks (as a parry).

Open Hand: Open is used to touch and opponent in battle and get past their armor. It does no damage but it is necessary for spells and psionic abilities that require touch.

Hand to hand: This is trained unarmed combat. It might be boxing or what they teach in military training. Hand to hand does more damage than punching. It may be used to attack, and it may be used to block (as a parry) all other unarmed attack forms.

Martial Arts: There are a limitless number of martial art forms available and any character that takes this skill needs to clarify which one they know. Martial arts are very versatile and can parry all unarmed attack forms. They may also parry blunt melee weapons.
